White Strand B&B & Cottages
Review
The Whitestrand B&B & Self Catering accommodation is a little Donegal hidden gem, truly made brighter by the warmth of its host, Mary Houghton. Mary has welcomed travellers since the year 2000 and it shows in every thoughtful touch and easy smile. With just three cosy bedrooms, advance booking is wise; intimacy here is part of the charm, guests arrive as strangers and leave as friends. The location is unforgettable: a few short miles from Ireland’s most northerly point, where the Atlantic feels like the last word before Iceland. Rooms are spotless, beds comfortable and breakfasts hearty, local and unhurried throughout. Prefer more independence? Mary also offers a clutch of well-kept self-catering places in the village. Friendly, authentic and great value, certainly classic Donegal hospitality.
SELF CATERING COTTAGES
Whitestrand B&B & Self Catering Accommodation is a great find on this wild, welcoming coastline. Co. Donegal shines brightest because of its people and Mary Houghton embodies that warmth. Her self-catering cottages are thoughtfully equipped with everything you need, from comfy beds, sparkling kitchens, fast Wi-Fi and those little extras that make a place feel like home. It’s the perfect base for a few days of beaches, cliff walks and coastal drives, with parking at the door and space to unwind after a day exploring. Mary is an attentive, genuine host who’s full of local tips and kindness. However, if self-catering isn’t your thing, her three-bedroom B&B just down the road offers the same care and comfort. Whitestrand makes Donegal easy, relaxing and truly memorable.

Wild Alpaca Way
Wild Alpaca Way is one of those rare experiences that stays with you long after you’ve left the hillside. Set high above the Inishowen Peninsula, with the Knockamany Bens rolling behind you and Malin Head and the vast Atlantic ahead, every step feels like walking through a living postcard.

Wild Atlantic Adventure Centre
The Wild Atlantic Adventure Centre is one of the newest and most exciting additions to Co. Donegal’s activity scene and that’s exactly why I chose to include it in my latest book. This family-run venture, led by the Devlin family, is all about teamwork, energy and adventure.
Nearby Eating Out

Scarpello & Co
As the artist creates works of art for our enjoy ment, so do the talented Kemal & Rachel Scarpello, rustle up edible art, in their devastatingly brilliant Scarpello Bakehouse & Pizzeria.

Happy Landing Bar & Restaurant
Hidden away, just a few miles outside Derry, the Happy Landing is a good find, embraced by locals who know great food when they find it. Having dined here with a friend in late 2024, I knew instantly it deserved a place in my Top 100 Attractions on the Island of Ireland book.
