Just a short hop from Drogheda, Red Mountain Open Farm is the kind of family day out that wins hearts on arrival. Run with warmth and professionalism by the Fee family, Liz, Henry and their son Philip, this rustic yet slick operation blends old-fashioned charm with thoughtful organisation. Paddocks are tidy, barns are spotless and the animals are obviously well cared for; curious, calm and friendly, they love a gentle pet, which adds to the magic for young and older visitors. The grounds are dotted with benches and tables, with plenty of shaded nooks that make impromptu picnics easy. When you’d rather let someone else cater, the barn-style café has light snacks, sweets, drinks and excellent coffee. Allow at least three hours: between animal encounters, play spaces and the horse & carriage rides, time slips away. It’s wholesome, great value and the kind of place you’ll love from the start.
