Review

Nanny’s of Duleek may be one of Ireland’s newest hospitality venues, but there is already a reassuring sense of experience behind everything they do. The owners are certainly no strangers to the industry, with several other well-established favourites already under their care, and that confidence shows throughout the accommodation. The rooms are comfortable, stylish and finished to an impressively high standard, with attention paid to design, quality and those small details that make a stay feel special. Location is another advantage. Sitting close to the many attractions of the Boyne Valley and within easy reach of Dublin, Nanny’s makes an excellent touring base for this fascinating part of Ireland. For comfort, quality and convenience, this new arrival has got off to a very impressive start.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Nanny’s of Duleek is a wonderful addition to the Boyne Valley food scene, and with the team behind Donegal’s famous Rusty Mackerel at the helm, expectations are understandably high. Thankfully, the food more than delivers. There is a clear emphasis on quality local produce, generous portions and dishes prepared with genuine care, creating the sort of relaxed dining experience that suits both visitors and locals perfectly. Just as impressive is the service, with a warm, friendly welcome that immediately makes you feel at home. You certainly don’t need to be staying in one of Nanny’s fabulous rooms to enjoy what the kitchen has to offer, as everyone is welcome. For good food, great hospitality and Irish generosity, Nanny’s of Duleek is well worth seeking out.

Boann Distillery

As I drove up to this striking, glass-and-steel landmark on the outskirts of Drogheda, I’ll admit I was taken aback. Ireland is awash with distilleries nowadays, but Boann genuinely stopped me in my tracks, this is somewhere different. This is a proud family affair, and the Cooneys
