Review

As I drove up to this striking, glass-and-steel landmark on the outskirts of Drogheda, I’ll admit I was taken aback. Ireland is awash with distilleries nowadays, but Boann genuinely stopped me in my tracks, this is somewhere different. This is a proud family affair, and the Cooneys clearly know the Irish drinks world inside out, having grown the Gleeson Group from a small independent bottler into a multi-million-euro success. Inside, the welcome is warm, the storytelling polished, and the production floor gleams. You see innovation and tradition working shoulder to shoulder, from mash tun to copper stills, before finishing in the aromatic warehouses. With first spirit flowing in 2019, tastings now reveal exactly why this young distillery is turning heads: elegant grain sweetness, orchard fruit, and a confident spice that lingers. Add a smart shop, engaging guides, and serious passion, and Boann becomes a must-visit on any whiskey lover’s map.
