McMunns of Ballybunion
Review
McMunn’s of Ballybunion has long held a well-deserved place in this book, and its accommodation provides another reason to return. Positioned right beside the Atlantic, the rooms feel bright, contemporary and restful after a day exploring the Kerry coast. Several enjoy sea views, allowing guests to wake to one of Ballybunion’s greatest natural assets. Comfort has been given serious thought, from the generous super king-sized beds to the fresh, modern décor throughout. The addition of a Nespresso machine means guests can begin the morning with a proper coffee before heading out. Everything feels polished without becoming impersonal, and the standard is impressive. For couples, solo travellers or anyone touring the Wild Atlantic Way, McMunn’s offers a stylish and memorable overnight stay that won’t break the bank!
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Returning to McMunn’s of Ballybunion reminded me exactly why this much-loved pub earned a place in my book several years ago. Its position overlooking the Wild Atlantic gives every visit a wonderful sense of place, while the atmosphere inside is relaxed, friendly and unmistakably Irish. Greg’s experience in the kitchen is evident throughout the menu, with careful attention paid to provenance, freshness and flavour. Much of what arrives at the table is prepared in-house, adding a genuine quality that is increasingly hard to find today. Una leads the front-of-house team with warmth and professionalism, ensuring guests feel welcome from the moment they arrive to the moment they leave. Whether stopping for lunch, dinner or a drink by the coast, McMunn’s remains a dependable Ballybunion favourite.
