Ballybunion Golf Club
Review
The Ballybunion Golf Club, on County Kerry’s dramatic north-west coast, is, in my opinion, one of Ireland’s finest golfing treasures. Overlooking the wild Atlantic, it offers two phenomenal yet challenging courses, each with its own character and romance. The legendary Old Course, established in 1893, feels unlike any other coastal course on earth, with every hole shaped by nature, history and the sea breeze. It is easy to understand why US presidents, famous actors and sporting icons have all been drawn here over the years. The Watson Cashen Course, designed by the great Robert Trent Jones in 1982 and remodelled in 2026 by Tom Watson adds another layer of quality and ambition, proving Ballybunion continues to evolve while respecting its heritage. The team here goes that extra mile for their visitors and the clubhouse is equally impressive, with a superb pro shop and excellent restaurant. A visit here is far more than a round of golf; it is an unforgettable Atlantic experience.
