Gleesons Roscommon
Review
Having featured Gleesons Roscommon in my book previously, I was looking forward to returning, and it was a pleasure to catch up with owner Eamonn Gleeson. His enthusiasm and passion for the place remain every bit as strong as I remembered. There is something welcoming about Gleesons from the moment you walk through the door. The rooms and suites are beautifully presented, comfortable and furnished to a high standard, while at the time of my latest visit, work was underway to create even more bedrooms. Right in the heart of Roscommon town centre, beside the Tourist Office, the location could hardly be more convenient. For me, though, it is the relaxed atmosphere, historic character and hospitality that make Gleesons such a lovely place to stay.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Gleesons Roscommon is no stranger to my books, having endorsed it previously. it was a genuine pleasure to return and find that its reputation for excellent food remains every bit as strong as when I last endorsed them last. Family owned and proudly family run, Eamonn, Mary and their daughter Cáit have created a wonderfully welcoming place where good food and genuine Irish hospitality go hand in hand. The menu offers plenty of choice, with dishes prepared with care, generous portions and an emphasis on quality ingredients. What really completes the experience, however, is the team. Friendly, warm and attentive, they genuinely go that extra mile to make guests feel at home. Even if you're not a resident, everyone is warmly welcomed to dine at Gleesons.

Roscommon Equestrian Centre
Sitting at the foot of the magnificent Slieve Bawn Mountain, close to the River Shannon, the Roscommon Equestrian Centre enjoys a setting that immediately makes an impression. Family owned and proudly run by the Kelly family, there is a warmth here that gives the centre a wonderfully personal feel.

Lough Ree Distillery
There are some places you include in a book because they are good, and others because they have a story that simply deserves to be told. Lough Ree Distillery falls firmly into both. Set beside the River Shannon in Lanesborough, this wonderfully compact operation is, as I like to call it, the biggest small distillery
