Accommodation

Review

Longford is one of those wonderfully friendly Irish towns where visitors are very welcome, and Cathedral View Apartments provides the perfect base from which to enjoy it. Situated directly opposite the town’s magnificent cathedral, these eight superb apartments are the pride of hosts Geraldine and Robert Stewart, who understand exactly what makes accommodation special. Each apartment is thoughtfully equipped with everything needed for a comfortable, relaxing stay, whether visiting for a few nights or longer. Another bonus is the generously sized, secure car park, removing the hassle of finding somewhere to leave your vehicle. With Longford’s shops, restaurants and amenities close at hand, convenience certainly comes as standard. Add remarkably reasonable rates and genuine Irish hospitality, and I consider Cathedral View Apartments exceptional value for money.

Lough Ree Distillery

There are some places you include in a book because they are good, and others because they have a story that simply deserves to be told. Lough Ree Distillery falls firmly into both. Set beside the River Shannon in Lanesborough, this wonderfully compact operation is, as I like to call it, the biggest small distillery

Rogue & Co

It is always a pleasure to return to a business I’ve endorsed previously and find it going from strength to strength, and Rogue & Co. is a perfect example. Brothers Ricky and James O’Gara, together with other members of the family, have poured their heart and soul into creating what I now consider one of the finest cafés in the region.
