The Emmet Clonakilty
Review
The Emmet Hotel in Clonakilty feels like a boutique stay done properly. This West Cork hotel is freshly refurbished, beautifully finished, and refreshingly free of the pretence that can sometimes come with the label. The rooms are thoughtfully designed, with quality furnishings, calm lighting, and those small touches that make an overnight stay feel special. With a choice of deluxe and superior rooms, there genuinely isn’t a weak option in the house. Owners Rebecca and Robert are hands-on, and it shows. There’s a warmth and personal pride here that simply can’t be faked. Practical luxury comes as standard too, from Dyson air purifiers to coffee pod machines and all the comforts you’d expect from a high-quality hotel bedroom. Add a genuinely friendly team, and you’re in very safe hands.
Dining at 2 The Square in The Emmet Hotel, Clonakilty is reason enough to book a stay. Alongside its beautifully appointed rooms, Library, and Secret Garden, the food offering is a real headline act. The owners and their kitchen team clearly care about provenance, sourcing the best ingredients from West Cork’s outstanding local producers, and it shows on the plate. The menu is confident and crowd-pleasing. Rosscarbery tomahawk steaks cater for those in the mood for something indulgent, while comforting classics like a proper West Cork fish pie celebrate the freshness of the local catch. There are also well-executed chicken dishes and plenty of choice across the menu, making it an easy win for couples, families, and solo travellers alike. In a town famed for its hospitality, this kitchen more than holds its own daily from 12 noon until 9pm.
