Clonakilty Distillery & Visitor Experience Centre is a shining example of what happens when a family backs its own vision. The Scully family were farmers first, and you feel that deep connection to West Cork’s land in every part of the story. Michael Scully and his wife Helen have built an award-winning distillery that produces superb whiskey, alongside a distinctive gin and vodka range, using clever techniques that set their spirits apart. The tour is led by a genuinely knowledgeable team who really do make the process easy to understand, from grain to glass, without ever feeling rehearsed. What struck me most is that this isn’t “just another distillery visit”. The state-of-the-art visitors centre really does bring the surrounding landscape to life, celebrates centuries of farming heritage, and even weaves in Clonakilty’s colourful history and famous descendants. Leave time for the tasting. It’s the kind of place you’ll gladly recommend.
