Situated in the Welsh county of Powys, The Checkers is a picture perfect 17th Century, former coaching inn, with low-slung beams, wood burner and four inviting guest rooms, which ooze classic, understated elegance with crisp white linens and muted opulence. Owned by Chefs: Andrew and Rachel Birch, who together bring a wealth of experience to the formerly Michelin-starred restaurant; The Checkers, have poured all their love, time, and creativity into a dream come true for both themselves and their guests. Andrew has spent his life dedicated to his craft, and is a chef who has worked in Michelin-star and AA-rosette kitchens, working for the Tanner brothers and Kenny Atkinson, becoming head chef at Fishmore Hall, where he achieved three rosettes and built his profile by appearing on BBC 2’s Great British Menu.

Having formerly worked as head Chef at Gordon Ramsey’s Savoy Grill, and appearing on BBC 2’s Great British Menu; husband-and-wife team Andrew and Rachel Birch, have blended their years of high end culinary experience, and together created a masterpiece of sublime food and heavenly accommodation. The restaurant with rooms offers relaxed fine dining, with an exciting modern British cuisine, served in a friendly, harmonious environment, with a clear focus on carefully sourced seasonal ingredients.
