Review

Tucked away in Cork City’s vibrant Shandon quarter, the Butter Museum is a superb reminder of how this lively neighbourhood once powered the city’s trade. Set on the original site of the Butter Exchange, in the very building where butter was bought and sold before being shipped across the world, the museum brings Cork’s commercial heritage to life. As you move through the displays, you’ll learn what daily life was like for farmers, merchants and families, and why butter became such a prized commodity for thousands of years. The stories are fascinating, the exhibits are well presented, and the sense of place is priceless. My personal highlight was getting hands-on and making butter with the team, using the same traditional methods our ancestors relied upon. It’s simple, satisfying and proud-making. If you’re exploring Cork City, don’t miss this interactive gem, which is an essential stop and perfect for all ages.
