The Butler Gallery
Review
“Let this knowledge settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love. It is there for each and every one of us.” St. Therese.
Immerse yourselves in the wonderful world of art at Butler Gallery, one of Ireland’s leading contemporary art galleries and museums with a permanent collection. Butler Gallery provides a dynamic, energetic burst of creativity and beauty for visitors to explore right at the heart of Kilkenny City in the South East of Ireland, and presents a variety of unique exhibitions showcasing modern and contemporary Irish art, including large art installations, sculpture and video. Butler Gallery resides in the historic Evan’s Home, which was built in 1818 as an alms house. The building, now filled with art, and free access for all, stands proudly as an inspiration not just for artists, but as a clear example of how to protect heritage, and in doing so; the environment. Containing one of Ireland’s most consequential art collections of the 20th century, visitors can also enjoy exhibitions by living artists in the Main Gallery. After all that sublime culture, settle down and reflect awhile over some refreshments served at the café, and enjoy the glorious ambience and medieval walled garden.
