Right in the heart of Kilkenny City, the Club House Hotel blends city buzz with timeless elegance. Dating back to the 17th century, its bones whisper many stories, yet the bedrooms feel freshly composed after a multi-million euro refurbishment. Rooms are modern and boutique without the pretence: plush beds, clever lighting, soothing palettes, and bathrooms that actually spoil you. Thoughtful touches, quality linens, good coffee, blackout, plenty of sockets, show owners Ian Brennan and his wife Joanna treat custodianship of this family run hotel as a craft. The rooms here layer period character with contemporary comfort and I slept perfectly here. From check-in to check-out, comfort is the brief and it’s met with confidence. For location, style and sleep quality, this is Kilkenny’s standout stay.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

At the Club House Hotel, Victors Bar & Restaurant is exactly where locals dine, and for good reason. I myself stayed three nights and happily ate here every evening. From mid-day onwards, the kitchen turns out confident, flavour-forward dishes with something to suit every palate, without drifting into pretension. Provenance matters: the owners and team clearly champion quality Irish produce, and it shows on the plate, fresh, seasonal, and cooked with care. Portions are generous, service is warm, and prices feel very fair for the standard delivered. Breakfast gets the same attention: properly brewed coffee, excellent breads, and hot dishes cooked to order rather than queued. Whether you’re staying over or passing through Kilkenny, plan a meal here, you’ll likely return the next night again.
