Review

Mid Ireland Adventure is one of those award-winning centres that genuinely delivers. Based on the River Shannon in Banagher, the team has turned Ireland’s heartlands into a year-round outdoor playground that feels welcoming yet properly adventurous. Choose stand-up paddleboarding, relaxed kayak rental, or a guided kayak safari that reveals the Shannon’s quieter corners, everything is run with calm professionalism, great kit and a real sense of fun. Sessions are tailored brilliantly, so first-timers and seasoned explorers alike feel confident from the off. Add hiking and bike hire, plus the sister Slieve Bloom Mountain Bike Centre at the foothills of the Slieve Blooms, and you’ve got a superb choose-your-own-adventure menu. The cherry on top is the Lough Boora Discovery Park, where bike hire is paired with a Nordic sauna and plunge pool, pure bliss after a day outside, but book the sauna and plunge pool in advance as it’s really popular!

The Harbour Masters House B&B

Harbour Masters House B&B in Shannon Harbour is one of those rare finds that keeps getting better. Now under new ownership, it’s the third time I’ve endorsed it in my Top 100 Attractions on the Island of Ireland book, and today’s visit for me, suggests a fourth and fifth are almost inevitable.
