Review

Kirby’s Brogue Inn is where Tralee’s legendary welcome meets properly cooked Irish food. Founded by the late Bill Kirby, an exuberant presence in the town and his wife Mary, it now thrives under their experienced daughter Fiona and her husband Kevin, who keep the heart while sharpening the details. Portions are generous, provenance matters, and the kitchen respects good ingredients: think creamy, well-seasoned seafood chowder with sturdy wheaten bread; tender Kerry lamb; or Castletownbere salmon that tastes of the Atlantic rather than the fryer. Specials follow the seasons, yet consistency is the constant. Service is brisk and friendly, and well-drilled; the pub buzzes with locals and visitors alike. Prices are fair, plates arrive hot, and comfort is guaranteed. Reassuring, delicious, wholeheartedly Irish and truly enduring.
