Cronin’s Yard
Review
Cronin’s Yard offers one of the most atmospheric places to stay in this magnificent corner of Co. Kerry. Just 11 miles from Killarney and sitting closer than anywhere else to the majestic Carrauntoohil, Ireland’s highest mountain, it is a superb base for walkers, climbers and just general lovers of the great outdoors. Your hosts, Esther and John Cronin have created accommodation with real character, including five cosy glamping pods and a self-catering cottage, ideal for exploring the MacGillycuddy Reeks and beyond. For those seeking a more authentic camping experience, the campsite is wonderfully practical, with excellent shower facilities adding welcome comfort after a day on the mountains. With a great onsite café open seven days a week, Cronin’s Yard is a truly brilliant Kerry base.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Cronin’s Yard already has a deserved reputation as the closest base to Carrauntoohil, Irelands Highest Mountain, but its onsite café is a real bonus and a lovely discovery in its own right. When I simply thought I was visiting just to have a tour of the accommodation, I realised they also had a warm and welcoming café, open not just to guests, but to walkers, climbers and anyone exploring the magnificent MacGillycuddy Reeks. Serving fabulous homemade soups, fresh sandwiches, tempting cakes and an excellent choice of hot drinks, it offers exactly the kind of comfort and refuelling stop you want before or after a mountain adventure. Friendly, relaxed and totally full of character, this hidden gem deserves a place on any Killarney or Carrauntoohil itinerary.

Ross Golf Club
The Ross Golf Club, is a unique Golf Course situated within the superb Killarney Racecourse complex, adding yet another string to the bow of this impressive sporting destination. This welcoming 9-hole course is ideal whether you are an accomplished golfer, a confident player looking for an enjoyable round, or a complete beginner keen to give the game a try. Killarney Racecourse
Killarney Racecourse remains, in my opinion, Ireland’s most picturesque racecourse, and having now endorsed it for the third time, I can say that with complete confidence. Located in the heart of Killarney, surrounded by scenery that very few sporting venues could ever rival, a day at the races here feels genuinely special. With three summer festivals each year, including its prestigious August fixture,
