Cavan County Museum
Review
The Cavan County Museum in Ballyjamesduff is, quite simply, outstanding. Just twelve miles from Cavan town, it’s housed in the former Poor Clare’s Convent, a characterful building dating back to 1872 that still showcases many original features. Inside, you’ll discover one of Ireland’s great museum hidden gems. The award-winning World War One trench experience and the impressive replica of Dublin’s GPO are definitely worth the journey alone, but there is so much more. Every room reveals a different chapter of Irish history, cleverly using the old convent spaces to full effect. The team are warm, knowledgeable and genuinely eager to help, while the cosy café makes it very easy to linger far longer than you’d originally planned. I could fill pages describing the exhibitions, but instead I’ll simply say this: don’t visit Ireland without making time for the Cavan County Museum. It is an unforgettable, enriching experience for all ages.
