Carlingford Lough Ferry
Review
Carlingford Lough Ferry not only offers an affordable, quick and well-run ferry service across Carlingford Lough (which effectively links the village of Greenore, County Louth, to the townland of Greencastle, County Down) but also provides an exciting peek into the fascinating history and rich cultural heritage of this area. The crossing itself takes approximately 20 minutes and offers some terrific photo opportunities of this celebrated countryside. However, over and above this, the ferry offers evening cruises to the lighthouse (August only) and around the Lough, which is informative as well as an integral part of the gripping tale of the intriguing history of this protected area. This is a beautifully organised, clean ferry with friendly, helpful staff on board. A definite recommendation to add to your itinerary.

Fitzpatricks Bar & Restaurant in Jenkinstown is so much more than a country pub; it’s a true Irish experience, which is why I’ve upgraded it in my Top 100 Attractions on the Island of Ireland book to one of my “Iconic Pubs of Ireland”. Set on the beautiful Cooley Peninsula,

The Bloody Stream
In the pretty maritime village of Howth, The Bloody Stream is the sort of pub that leaves a lasting impression from the moment you walk through the door. Owned and run by Michael Wright, a man with a proven pedigree in hospitality, this is a place where high standards are clearly non-negotiable.
