Fitzpatricks Bar & Restaurant in Jenkinstown is so much more than a country pub; it’s a true Irish experience, which is why I’ve upgraded it in my Top 100 Attractions on the Island of Ireland book to one of my “Iconic Pubs of Ireland”. Set on the beautiful Cooley Peninsula, it combines old-world charm with serious culinary clout. Step inside and you’re instantly wrapped in character, flickering fires, bric-a-brac-lined walls and an atmosphere you really wish you could bottle. The team are warm, engaging and clearly proud of what they do, while the menu delivers plate after plate of generous, flavour-packed cooking. Grab a cosy corner in the wonderfully atmospheric Wee Bar or settle into the main bar and restaurant; either way, if you’ve managed to secure a table, you’re in for a treat. My advice? Plan ahead and book, because locals and visitors alike know this place is special.
