Camp Gregory
Review
Camp Gregory is one of those rare places where couples can truly switch off and reconnect. Tucked beside a wonderfully tranquil lake, it feels a world away from the madness of everyday life, yet you’re still within easy reach of Cavan’s Attractions, including Northern Ireland and beautiful Co. Fermanagh. Cyril and Eva have created a haven of calm, where everything feels thoughtful and unhurried. With six cosy cabins, seven perfectly placed caravan pitches and three tent pitches, there’s a corner for every kind of couple. The gorgeous Bell Tower Tent is made for romance, think lazy mornings, birdsong and mist rising off the water. Evenings are for stargazing, quiet chats and simply enjoying each other’s company. I loved the simplicity of this campsite and the genuine warmth of the owners. The longer you stay, the more you’ll feel completely at home here. A hidden romantic gem I can’t recommend enough.

The Bailieborough Bridewell
Housed in Bailieborough’s former town jail, built originally in 1833, and right beside the towns historic Courthouse, the Bailieborough Bridewell opens a compelling door into a past that was often very dark indeed. I was genuinely bowled over by how slick and professional the visitor experience is.

Mourne Shooting Grounds
Just a short drive from both towns Dundalk and Monaghan, Mourne Shooting Grounds is a standout destination for anyone keen to try their hand at shooting sports in a safe, welcoming friendly environment. Family owned and family run, it attracts visitors from across the wider region

The Play Centre - Kingscourt
Having visited countless play centres over the years, I can honestly say that only a select few manage to make it into my books and the Play Centre here in Kingscourt more than earns its place. Owner Joe Hutchinson has truly raised the bar here, creating a bright, welcoming and superbly

Hughie’s Pub
Hughie’s Pub in the charming village of Corcaghan, Co. Monaghan, is the kind of place every village wishes it had. Originally owned by Hughie, Steve’s grandfather, this nearly a hundred year old pub has long been a much-loved local institution and now visitors are quickly discovering its appeal too.

Wild Thyme Restaurant
Wild Thyme Restaurant is, quite frankly, one of the standout dining experiences in Co. Monaghan. Having met owner-chef Karl Breen, it quickly became clear why so many people urged me to endorse this restaurant. Open only since 2022, it’s astonishing how quickly

Fifty50 - Kells
Fifty50 in Kells has quickly become a go-to spot for locals and visitors exploring Co. Meath. Just like its Navan & Ashbourne counterparts, the kitchen here turns out inventive plates inspired by sunshine flavours, from zingy openers to satisfying plates that feel like pure indulgence.

Fitzpatricks Bar & Restaurant
Fitzpatricks Bar & Restaurant in Jenkinstown is so much more than a country pub; it’s a true Irish experience, which is why I’ve upgraded it in my Top 100 Attractions on the Island of Ireland book to one of my “Iconic Pubs of Ireland”. Set on the beautiful Cooley Peninsula,
