Vaughan’s Pub & Restaurant
Review
Right beside the ever-popular Vaughan’s Pub in Kilfenora, this charming guest accommodation is a superb base for exploring both Clare and Galway. After a full day on the road, it’s exactly the kind of place you want to return to: warm, genuine, and wonderfully comfortable. With nine well-kept bedrooms, it suits couples seeking a relaxed break, small groups touring the west, and guests attending celebrations next door. What makes it stand out is its sense of place, simple, honest hospitality done properly. The added bonus is Vaughan’s ability to host intimate weddings, making this an appealing option for those wanting everything in one location. For comfort, character, and convenience in equal measure, Vaughan’s delivers a stay that really does feel personal from arrival to departure.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Vaughan’s Pub in Kilfenora has that rare, old-school confidence: no fuss, no gimmicks, just honest food done properly. Irish owned and Irish run, New owner Patrick O’Connor and his team keeps things fresh with separate weekday and weekend menus, and you can browse both online before you visit. Their location is a gift, close enough to the coast for top-class fish, close enough to rich farmland for superb local meat. The result is a menu that feels grounded, seasonal, and full of flavour. The Doonbeg Beer Battered Fish & Chips is crisp, golden comfort, while the homemade Irish Beef & Guinness Stew is deep, rich, and warming. Add a pint, settle in, and suddenly the evening disappears. It’s hospitality at its most natural and memorable.

Burren Visitor Centre
Kilfenora oozes heritage from every single building, and the Burren Visitor Centre is the perfect starting point for soaking it all in. This is Father Ted territory too, and if you know the show, you’ll absolutely love spotting the familiar filming streets, I know I did.

Burren Smokehouse
Lisdoonvarna is one of Co. Clare’s liveliest towns and few places capture its energy quite like the award winning Burren Smokehouse. I was honoured to spend time with founders Birgitta and Peter Curtin, whose passion has turned this family-run business into a world-class operation.

Caherconnell Fort & Sheepdog Demonstrations
Ancient and atmospheric, Caherconnell Stone Fort feels every bit the mystical heart of the Burren. Encircled by superb dry-stone walls and limestone pavements, this over-a-thousand-year-old ringfort ranks among the most significant archaeological sites not just in Clare or Ireland,
