Treak Cliff Cavern
Treak Cliff Cavern in Castleton is famous throughout the world for its unique and large deposits of Blue John stone and houses some of the most beautiful cave formations found in the UK. Take a guided tour, enjoy the amazing views across the Hope Valley, browse the well-stocked gift shop and catch your breath in our newly-refurbished visitor centre, café and picnic areas. The cavern is open from 10a.m – 5pm every day (except 25th December); the last tour is at 4.20pm (3.20pm between November 1st and February 28th). Enjoy a guided tour through our mine and caverns and see some of the finest stalactites and stalagmites in the Peak District with wonderful water worn chambers. Our exhibition area is a recent addition to the Visitor Centre and features a permanent collection of Blue John, geological samples and an informal look at the history and development of Treak Cliff as both a family-run working mine and tourism attraction.
