The River Cafe

Eating OutAccommodation

The River Cafe is a licensed cafe-bar-restaurant located across the boatyard with the Wye Valley Canoe Centre next door.It is a relaxed and informal space with tables on the decking overlooking the River Wye.

We are open from 0900 and people gather here for an Illy coffee, a pastry or a bacon sandwich before going out on the river. The outdoor mob are welcome and we are ideally situated for those doing the Wye Valley Walk and we are on the Sustran cycle network (route 8 and 42) for those on two wheels. Our customer base is probably more varied than anywhere else I can think of! We are not just a hot chocolate and a muffin sort of a place. AA Gill the infamous food critic awarded us 4 stars and during the Hay Literature Festival we welcome many well known faces to eat, to relax and enjoy fresh food cooked daily by our wonderful kitchen crew. You can come in a suit or a swimsuit, a pirate outfit or shorts and flip flops. The whole ethos of the cafe is that it should never feel pretentious but should welcome everyone!

We have 4 en-suite rooms above the cafe. Book a room today on: 01497 847007

The rooms are simple, modern and warm and guests come down to a large cooked breakfast with free range eggs, bacon, a bottle of local apple juice, cereals and croissants. All rooms are en-suite. These rooms are simply furnished and not a piece of floral wallpaper in sight.
