The Moy Hotel & Haymarket Restaurant
Review
Foxford’s Moy Hotel surprised me in the best way. I expected good; I wasn’t prepared for exceptional. Owners Maureen and Tommy, fresh from long careers in farming, have transformed a once run-down pub into a polished, characterful hub in the town’s heart. Their no-expense-spared approach shows: eleven stylish bedrooms, a purpose-built function room gazing over the picture-postcard River Moy, and The Haymarket restaurant serving confident, locally minded dishes. It’s one of Co. Mayo’s standout pubs and small hotels and I don’t say that lightly. Whether you’re checking in for a restorative break or simply calling by for lunch, the fabulous team move with easy hospitality, anticipating needs before you voice them. Put the Moy Hotel firmly on your Foxford itinerary. You’ll be thrilled you came.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Expectations were high, but the Moy Hotel really exceeded them with style. Owners Maureen and Tommy, swapping milking parlour’s for polished brass, have transformed a tired town-centre pub into a beacon of warmth and quality. The menu is simple yet clever, fish landed nearby, meat with real provenance, vegetables that taste of place. Plates arrive poised and generous, crispy-skinned fish with bright herb butter, slow-braised beef that yields to the fork, puddings that whisper comfort. Service is swift, genuine, and quietly proud; this fairly new kitchen team already cooks with assurance and restraint. Whether you’re overnighting or simply hungry, the Moy delivers hospitality that feels hand-finished. Foxford didn’t just gain a hotel here, it gained one of the county’s best pubs. Hearty yet confidently polished.
