The Lysander Arms
Review
Just outside the ever-popular city of York, the Lysander Arms offers motorhome travellers a wonderfully convenient and well thought out base. Their superb urban motorhome park features 13 high-tech pitches and sits right beside the pub, making it brilliantly easy to settle in after an enjoyable evening. What impressed me most is how effortlessly this site combines comfort with location. There is a central heated toilet block, excellent shower facilities and everything has been designed with guests’ ease in mind. Better still, you are only around five minutes on foot from the park and ride, which whisks you straight into York. For those who prefer two wheels, the nearby cycle path follows the River Ouse right into the heart of this historic and much-loved city.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Just beyond the bustle of York, the Lysander Arms serves food that reflects everything I admire about a genuinely well-run family venue. Family owned and run, this is a place where care, consistency and local pride come through in every dish. The menu moves with the seasons, which keeps things fresh and gives diners a real taste of what the surrounding area has to offer. Ingredients are sourced as locally as possible, and that commitment shows in both flavour and quality. There is an honesty to the food here that I find hugely appealing, with each plate prepared to a very high standard. The Lysander is understandably a busy pub, so booking ahead is strongly advised. Do that, and you’re very unlikely to leave disappointed indeed.
