Having been recommended by another business locally, I knew that the Heron Farmshop & Kitchen had to be special, but just how special, I didn’t realise until I had finally parked my car in the car park. I had to stop and catch my breath for a minute as this wasn’t just a place to come and get a bite to eat, the Heron is so much more than that! Completely built in 12 months from scratch by Angus and his wife Emma Smith, who it has to be said, are the epitome of our great British farming community and two of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. Their main philosophies are ‘field to fork’ ‘food provenance’ and that could be seen with every dish I saw come out. With an ever growing farm shop, a trip to the Heron is most definitely an experience and that’s why I decided to feature it as one of our hidden gems!
