Conyngham Arms Hotel
Review
Set in the picturesque village of Slane and now being endorsed for the second time, the Conyngham Arms is a charming, family-run hotel with 18th-century roots. Bedrooms balance heritage details with contemporary comforts, creating a cosy, restful atmosphere, while thoughtful little touches elevate every stay. The walled garden is a delight in any season and the day starts well with a hearty full Irish breakfast. Later, a tasty three-course dinner awaits in the restaurant, before cocktails in the welcoming bar. It’s also a superb wedding setting, recently crowned ‘Best Boutique Venue’ at the RSVP Wedding Awards. For extra privacy, the beautifully finished Old Post Office next door offers equally excellent accommodation. A polished base for Boyne Valley exploring and a place you’ll happily linger indeed.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
At the Conyngham Arms’ Country Kitchen, provenance and flavour leads from first bite to last. Mornings begin with a polished take on the famous full Irish: crisp rashers, plump sausages, free-range eggs with a bright yolk, house breads still warm and jams that taste like someone’s grandmother made them. Later, the menu leans into seasonal Irish produce, vegetables that taste of the garden, tender meats slow-cooked for depth and fish presented with confident simplicity. Portions are generous without being heavy and plating shows a light, contemporary touch. Starters are balanced (think silken soups and clever salads), mains comforting yet precise and desserts properly indulgent, sticky puddings, short, buttery pastry, excellent ice creams. Vegetarian and gluten-free options feel considered, not afterthoughts. It’s heartfelt, confident cooking throughout.
