Eating Out

Review

The Boathouse Restaurant in the waterside village of Glencaple is one of those rare places deserving far more than a passing mention. I upgraded it to a full page because 125 words could never convey just how impressive it is. Set beside the Nith Estuary, with an inviting outdoor decking area for brighter days, the setting is every bit as memorable as the food. General manager and chef Mari Glendinning understands that provenance matters, sourcing ingredients with care and allowing their quality to shine through each thoughtfully prepared dish. Scottish hospitality and fine food come together here with effortless warmth, supported by a friendly team who make every guest feel welcome. The views across the water are outstanding, adding another layer to an already exceptional dining experience. Whether visiting for coffee, lunch or something more substantial, or just a browse around their shop, The Boathouse is a true Scottish highlight.

There is something wonderfully romantic about a stay at Kirkwirral Guesthouse, where luxury genuinely comes as standard.
