The Bear at Hodnet
Nestling in the Shropshire countryside, this country inn is nothing if not relaxing. All the classic ingredients are here- old beams, roaring fires, a casual mix-and-match of pine and oak furniture, real ale, Greg's hand-chosen 'rectory red' walls and good food. The latter being seriously good.
Head Chef Alyn Jones and his team are responsible for a menu that includes everything a country pub should, alongside more inventive cuisine
During the winter months you can enjoy cosy meals around the four log burners sat in various rooms, surrounded by exposed wooden beams. Whilst in the Summer you can dine in our garden, sat amongst the herbs that we use in our kitchen and admire the beautiful Shropshire country-side.
Not wanting to be shown up by our food, our beer and wine list is equally tantilising. We choose a variety of cask ales, both well-known (Timothy Taylors anyone?) and new, to guest our hand-pulls. Some wine is chosen to perfectly compliment the food, others are stand-alone classics, including 14 sold by the glass.
Housed in the delightful black and white building, our 7 country en-suite rooms combine both style and comfort Over the centuries the provision of accommodation has been renowned at The Bear, ideally located on an old trade route from Shrewsbury to Market Drayton. Originally a 16th Century Coaching Inn it’s an ideal place to stop overnight, pen the animals and take a well-earned rest from the journey. All our rooms are comfortable, well-equipped, warm and maintained to the highest standards. There are 7 bedrooms in total, including a triple, double, twin and single rooms. All of the rooms have recently been refurbished to a high standard including brand new en-suites. Included; en-suite bathrooms, TV with DVD player and Freeview, Coffee/Tea making facilities and very comfortable beds.
Menu
The menu is everything great about modern British cookery with classic pub dishes sat next to more inspired creations. There will always be a vegetarian option as well as fresh fish. We only use the best suppliers and all our produce is British and home-made.
Our food philosophy being based on using the best raw materials, we place much importance on the ability to change our menu daily if needs be, to ensure that we are serving the freshest and most seasonal produce available to us on any one day.
