Set right on the Cork–Limerick border, Thatch & Thyme is the kind of restaurant that feels like a brilliant local secret you’re delighted to discover. Privately owned for more than a decade, Joanne McEldowney has created an award-winning dining room that’s just as adored by locals as it is by the judges. The menu is all about flavour, with beautifully cooked dishes that let top-quality ingredients do the talking. Provenance is taken seriously here, and it shows in every bite, from the first course right through to dessert. What really seals the experience, though, is the warmth of the welcome – generous, genuine and unhurried.
