Stump Cross Caverns
Review
The Stump Cross Caverns near Pateley Bridge are a millennia-old spectacular subterranean natural feature in North Yorkshire. The limestone caves are naturally decorated with ancient stalactites and stalagmites, showcased wondrously using varied-colour lighting. If you are sufficiently experienced to venture beyond the pathways with handrails, you can put on your hard hat, wellies and loads of valour – and go! One mile of six miles underground is open to the public. For the wee ones the fairy trail, and seeing if they can find a fairy door, is a huge source of enjoyment. There is a lovely shop with charming items for children and adults along a science and history theme. You can replenish your expended energy at the coffee shop with its delightful daytime menu, or choose to attend one of their regular bistro evenings, which come with a glass of prosecco. A must visit.
