The New Park Hotel, in the world-famous medieval town of Athenry, is a wonderful example of boutique accommodation done properly, without fuss or pretension. Having previously endorsed its restaurant in my last Island of Ireland edition, I am delighted to see the same care reflected in its accommodation. With just ten bedrooms, a stay here feels personal, relaxed and genuinely welcoming. This family-run business clearly understands the value of good hospitality, with an owner who takes real pride in comfort, service and attention to detail. For those wanting to explore Galway and the surrounding counties, New Park Hotel makes an excellent base, without the cost or traffic pressures of staying in Galway city. Warm, intimate and excellent value, it really does fit the bill beautifully.

Whether you are calling in for a casual bite, a coffee and cake, or a drink with friends, the Park Bar provides a warm and easy-going setting that suits every occasion. For those wanting something a bit more substantial, even if you’re not staying here, the hotel’s Parlour Bistro raises the bar with an excellent à la carte menu that offers both choice and quality. Here, the head chef and kitchen team are clearly given the freedom to showcase their talents, producing food that is hearty, flavoursome and satisfying. Best of all, it delivers proper value, proving that a memorable meal need not cost the earth.
