Joyce Country Sheepdogs is Connemara at its most authentic: wind, pasture, and the electric focus of a Border Collie doing what it was born to do. The age-old craft of shepherding has shaped Ireland for millennia, and for well over a century the Border Collie has been the island’s four-legged partner of choice. Joe Joyce has honed that partnership for almost two decades, and it shows. His demonstrations are crisp, funny, and wonderfully instructive, revealing the nuanced whistles, body language, and trust that move a flock as if by telepathy. Visitors come from far and wide; Hollywood noticed too, Joe and his sheep appear in Marley & Me alongside Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson. On my visit, a cameo from month-old pups stole the show and several hearts. This is a real working farm, a real Connemara experience, and terrific value for the modest fee. I left informed, grinning, and charmed.
