Review

Hook Lighthouse is one of Ireland’s most treasured historic attractions and a place that fully deserves its remarkable reputation. Standing proudly on the Hook Peninsula here in Wexford, this extraordinary lighthouse is recognised as the oldest fully intact operational lighthouse in the world. Retaining its original medieval tower, it has remained operational continuously for over 800 years. Opened in 1172, it has guided seafarers for centuries and remains an impressive symbol of Ireland’s maritime heritage. A guided tour here brings its story vividly to life, explaining why this landmark has played such an important role through the ages. The team are friendly, informative and wonderfully knowledgeable, making the visit both enjoyable and memorable. Its coastal setting only adds to the experience, with sweeping views that stay with you long after leaving. While in the area, Duncannon Fort, the Kennedy Homestead and the Dunbrody Famine Ship are also well worth visiting.

Mary Barrys Bar & Restaurant

Mary Barry’s Seafood Bar & Restaurant, on the outskirts of Kilmore Quay, is a pub and dining destination I was genuinely delighted to return to after first endorsing it nine years ago. Expectations were high, but what Susie Doyle and her husband Alec have achieved here is exceptional. In my opinion, Mary Barry’s is now the finest pub in Co. Wexford, and fully deserving of our rare Iconic Status.
