David Livingstone Birthplace
Review
My visit to the David Livingstone Birthplace was one I thoroughly enjoyed, particularly after seeing the results of the huge regeneration project that has transformed this important attraction. David Livingstone remains one of the most fascinating figures of the 19th century, remembered not only for his remarkable expeditions across Africa, but also for his strong opposition to slavery and determination to bring about change. His significance is perhaps best demonstrated by the fact that he was eventually buried in Westminster Abbey. Here at his birthplace, the museum tells his extraordinary story beautifully, taking visitors from a childhood of poverty and hard work through to worldwide recognition. The displays are engaging, informative and presented in a way that really brings Livingstone’s character to life. Add beautiful grounds, excellent facilities and a genuinely friendly team, and this becomes an attraction that ticks every box. When visiting Scotland, make sure this wonderful museum is firmly on your itinerary.
