Crosswater Inn
Review
Tucked away in the charming little village of Barrhill, not far from the Ayrshire town of Girvan, the Crosswater Inn is exactly the sort of country pub I enjoy recommending. Offering a handful of modern, comfortable and surprisingly affordable bedrooms, this delightful establishment makes an excellent base for exploring beautiful Ayrshire. I take considerable care when selecting accommodation for my books, because where you stay forms such an important part of your overall experience. Thankfully, hosts Andrea and Kaizer understand this perfectly. Their genuine hospitality, friendly approach and willingness to go that extra mile ensure guests feel welcome from arrival to departure. With so much to see and experience throughout Ayrshire, the Crosswater Inn offers comfort, huge character and exceptional value. A lovely little find!
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
There’s something wonderfully refreshing about a country pub that keeps its menu simple, yet delivers food that’s both tasty and satisfying. Here at the Crosswater Inn, whether you’re staying in one of their comfortable bedrooms or simply passing through Barrhill, I’d certainly recommend stopping by for a meal. Your host, Andrea, has spent many years in hospitality and tourism, and her experience certainly shines through. With a fabulous personality, infectious sense of humour and genuinely welcoming nature, she’s absolutely made for this business! Combine that with good, honest food, a relaxed atmosphere and affordable accommodation, and you have all the ingredients for a thoroughly enjoyable Scottish getaway. One final piece of advice, book directly with the pub and book early, because this little gem gets busy!

Galloway Distillery
The new Galloway Distillery is an exciting addition to Scotland’s spirits scene and one deeply rooted in its surroundings. Founded in 2025 by Scottish actor Sam Heughan and his friend Alex Norouzi, this venture is about far more than business. For Sam, it represents an opportunity to place his homeland of Galloway firmly on the whisky map, while showcasing a crafted collection of distinctive spirits.
