This multiple award winning site came from very humble beginnings and has been lovingly transformed by Martin Walsh and family into a charming and informative day visit venue in Connemara. Originally a prefamine cottage belonging to Dan O’Hara (circa 1830’s) who was immortalised in a ballad, it is now an example of the history of the area with artefacts of both historical and cultural interest. You can see a reconstruction of a crannog (ancient fortified building), ringfort and a cloghaun (dry stone beehive hut).This is a super opportunity to learn more about the history of ancient Ireland through interactive tours with demonstrations of traditional farming activities, organised activities and games. There is an audio-visual room, a craft shop and a restaurant which serves tea, cakes, scones and lunches. A must visit for tourists, locals and school groups alike.
