Combermere Abbey & Gardens

AttractionsGardenAccommodation

The Combermere Abbey Estate sits on the borders of Shropshire and Cheshire between the market towns of Nantwich and Whitchurch. Its important contribution to the history of Cheshire and the North West since 1133 has been well documented and it remains an inspiration for many.

Since its establishment as a Cistercian Monastery and then as home to the Cotton (Combermere) and Crossley families, it has entertained many well known personalities, and continues to do so today. In its current incarnation, it continues as a private family home, but welcomes visitors in groups or on specific days by appointment.

The estate has an active organic farm, and its unusual listed buildings have been transformed into award winning holiday cottages and a fabulous wedding venue.

Discover this private and exclusive place, a hidden gem on the borders of Cheshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire and North Wales just waiting for you to find it! Surround yourself in its history, enjoy its breathtaking landscape and compelling architecture and marvel at the privacy and personal attention you will enjoy.

At Combermere you will discover its magic and its charm. Discover an award winning wedding venue with luxury accommodation where looking after you is paramount. Discover peace and relax away from the hustle and bustle in our historic self-catering cottages and luxury bed and breakfast in the newly restored North Wing. Discover the Abbey, its extraordinary history and the story of its restoration on a guided tour of our house itself.

Enter our gates and drink in the beauty of our parkland and ancient trees, feel transported back to the traditions and elegance of earlier centuries but be assured of 21st century convenience, quality and comfort.

I hope you will enjoy our short aerial video and that you fall in love with this special place as much as my family and our wonderful team do, and we look forward to seeing you at Combermere very soon.

Accommodation

Self Catering cottages

Combermere Abbey’s ten beautifully appointed and individually designed holiday cottages offer our guests the perfect opportunity to enjoy the privacy and beauty of the estate set in the rural borderlands of Cheshire and Shropshire, and to explore the rich pickings of the surrounding area if you so wish.

Bed & Breakfast

A stay in the North Wing at Combermere Abbey transports you to a place where history, beauty and luxury combine to create a truly unforgettable place to stay. Steeped in history, the North wing is the result of a major 18-month restoration project involving many different skilled craftsmen.

To complement the rich architectural history of our boutique bed & breakfast, the North Wing, renowned interior designer, Nina Campbell, brought her exquisite style and sensitivity to the project.

Welcomed by Stephan or Sue you will be treated to the rare experience of staying in one of our two sumptuous bedrooms, The Salamanca or The Bhurtpore housed within an especially romantic home with dreamy views from the breakfast table of the 143 acre mere where swans glide tranquilly about their business.
