Bishops Palace
Review
“In shadowy pools, when armies fled; the love-tales wrought with silken thread, by dreaming ladies upon cloth…” W. B. Yeats.
Enter into a living tale from the past, and experience beautiful, architectural enchantments of an 18th century townhouse, in the dreamy Bishop’s Palace, in Ireland's Waterford city. Displaying outstandingly exquisite treasures of Georgian and Victorian Waterford, the Bishop’s Palace is situated on The Mall, right in the heart of the city. Waterford Crystal was started in 1783 by brothers George and William Penrose, along with the renowned glassmaker John Hill, and Bishop’s Palace is home to a fine collection of local treasures, paintings, as well as the oldest surviving piece of Waterford Crystal in the world- the Penrose decanter. Visitors can experience re-enactor-led tours through both precious masterpieces, and the infamy of 18th century Waterford, at this superlative, architectural showpiece. After you’ve enjoyed your visit, why not take a break and stop for some coffee and cake at the Bishop’s Palace Cafe.
