The Arigna Mining Experience in here Co. Roscommon stands out as one of Ireland’s most unique and fascinating attractions. Being the only coal mine in Ireland open to the public for a full underground tour, it offers visitors a very rare insight into the life and work of each miner. Guided by former coal miners, the experience is both authentic and deeply engaging, giving firsthand accounts of the challenges and camaraderie within the mining community. As you venture into the mine itself, the atmosphere transports you back in time, immersing you in its history. With only three coal mines ever existing in Ireland, Arigna’s preservation ensures this vital piece of industrial heritage is not forgotten. This is the second time I’ve endorsed the Arigna Mine in my Island of Ireland book, and for good reason, it’s an experience that leaves a lasting impression and one that no visitor should overlook.
