Wicklow Gaol
Review
Wicklow’s Historic Gaol, set in the heart of County Wicklow, remains one of the island’s most unforgettable attractions, so much so, this marks my second time endorsing it in my Top 100 Attractions book on the Island of Ireland book. After my latest visit, I’m convinced it won’t be the last. This immersive experience takes you on a powerful journey through Ireland’s turbulent past, told through the eyes of those who once walked its cold stone corridors. The recently added audio-visual features, including impressive holographic projections of former inmates and the Gaoler, bring the stories to life with chilling authenticity. The original prison cells and period details are remarkably preserved, offering a haunting glimpse into 18th and 19th-century prison life. Visitors can also enjoy a multilingual audio guide, further enhancing the educational value of this experience. With a passionate and knowledgeable team on hand, Wicklow Gaol continues to deliver compellingly.

Wrights Anglers Rest, sitting on the edge of Dublin’s iconic Phoenix Park, is the kind of place that instantly captures the imagination.
