In the pretty Yorkshire village of Harome, The Star stands as one of North Yorkshire’s finest culinary addresses and, indeed, one of Britain’s brightest jewels. Under the stewardship of chef patron Andrew Pern, this remarkable pub combines award winning food with a refreshingly grounded sense of hospitality. Despite his television profile and the endless accolades, Andrew was relaxed, welcoming and utterly genuine when we met, instantly striking me as one of the best pub owners I have ever encountered. The cooking here is, unsurprisingly, exceptional, with immense care, skill and pride evident in every detail, and with so much produced on site, quality shines through throughout. Yet what also left a lasting impression were the bedrooms across the road, which are beautifully designed, luxurious and finished to an incredibly high standard. For a romantic getaway with real substance, The Star at Harome is simply unforgettable and truly worth every mile.
