Tucked away in lively Lisdoonvarna, the historic Roadside Tavern is the sort of pub every person on a grand tour of Ireland dreams of. Established in 1865 and still proudly family run, it’s now in the expert hands of Peter Jackson, one of Co. Clare’s most talented chefs. The food in this award-winning pub has always been excellent, but Peter has elevated it again, with plates that celebrate local produce and hearty, honest flavour. Add traditional music five nights a week and you have one of Ireland’s most atmospheric pubs. The Roadside is also home to the Burren Brewery and forms part of Burren Experiences, from Burren Smokehouse visits to craft beer and whiskey tastings and Peter Curtin’s legendary storytelling, who has over 150 years of family Burren heritage behind him. This is an essential stop, miss it at your peril! You’ll leave full, smiling and already planning your return.
