In the chocolate box village of Scawton, the 12th century Pignut & The Hare feels like one of North Yorkshire’s most exciting culinary discoveries. Owned and run by Tom and Laurissa Haywood, this is a place where ambition, talent and genuine warmth come together beautifully. Their approach to food is rooted in the finest local ingredients, and every dish reflects a deep respect for provenance, seasonality and flavour. There is real confidence in the cooking here, with a menu that feels thoughtful, refined and full of imagination, yet never loses its sense of place. Just as impressive are the four luxurious bedrooms, which make it all too easy to turn a memorable meal into a special overnight escape. What I especially admire, however, is the atmosphere. Despite the obvious skill on show, everything feels relaxed, welcoming and wonderfully unforced. Pignut & The Hare is surely destined for great acclaim indeed
