The Kings Head in Ravenstonedale is everything a great country pub should be: traditional, welcoming and full of character. Owner Kenni James has created something very special here, and what makes this place stand out is that neither the food nor the accommodation has to play second fiddle. Upstairs, six beautifully designed bedrooms offer comfort and style in equal measure, each individually finished with attention to detail. In my opinion, they would not look out of place in a five-star hotel, with Kenni’s partner deserving much of the credit for their design. Downstairs, the atmosphere is exactly what you hope for from a proper village pub. Log fires crackle, glasses are raised, conversation fills the room and excellent food keeps arriving from the kitchen. There is a warmth and romance to the Kings Head without it ever feeling contrived. This is a pub you arrive at happily and leave reluctantly.
