There is something wonderfully reassuring about the Brownlow Arms in Hough-on-the-Hill, a family-owned country inn that captures everything I love about traditional British hospitality. Dating back to the 17th century and formerly owned by Lord Brownlow, this chocolate-box pub sits beautifully within its Lincolnshire village setting, full of character, warmth and charm. Owners Paul and Lorraine Willoughby have created something genuinely special here, combining first-class hospitality with an exceptional food offering. Earning one AA Rosette is an achievement; holding two speaks volumes about the quality, consistency and skill coming from the kitchen. The accommodation is equally impressive, with its 5-star rating offering further reassurance that standards remain high throughout. What I particularly admire is that despite the accolades, the Brownlow Arms still feels personal, relaxed and welcoming. This is a proper country inn in every sense, and one I can confidently say is well worth seeking out when visiting Lincolnshire.
