The Bear Inn Alderwasley
Review
The Bear at Alderwasley is exactly the sort of Derbyshire inn I love discovering, because it offers far more than just a place to rest your head. Dating back to 1735, this much-loved, family-run pub remains the heart of its small village, with a warmth and character and a sense of romance that only centuries of hospitality can create. The accommodation is full of charm, from romantic four-poster rooms to comfortable king-sized doubles, each offering excellent showers and the promise of a peaceful night in a building older than the Houses of Parliament. Then comes the food, which is another reason to visit. Whether calling in for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, the menus offer plenty of choice and real pub satisfaction. You do not need to be staying to eat here, although booking ahead is strongly advised. For dog owners, two dog-friendly cottages make this lovely romantic escape even more appealing.
