The Bear And Staff
The Bear & Staff is a handsome historic 19th century inn situated in the picturesque centre of Gateacre. The pub is perfectly situated for exploring the impressive architecture of Gateacre which has over 100 listed buildings. Three of the most prominent are within just 200 metres of this attractive pub restaurant. The impressive timbered Grade II listed 28 Gateacre Brow initially built in 1889 as a telephone exchange was designed by Walter Aubrey Thomas the acclaimed architect behind The Royal Liver Building. Just around the corner on Sandfield Street lies Gateacre Unitarian Chapel an impressive brick chapel from 1700 nestled in attractive grounds. Grange Lane meanwhile contains Gateacre’s sandstone ‘Paradise Cottages’ constructed from rough sandstone in the early 18th century.Whatever your reason for visiting this beautiful part of Merseyside The Bear & Staff is a wonderful setting for enjoying delicious traditional pub food and a bottle of fine wine amongst an attractive and green area.
