The Auldgirth Inn
Comfortably cosy, its warm, welcoming ambiance mingles with five centuries of history stacked up within the walls. Sit by the lounge bar inglenook and share a space once occupied by Rabbie Burns as he sheltered against winter's icy blast.Enjoy a delicious meal in the spacious dining area where you can watch talented chefs as they busily prepare a wide range of mouth-watering dishes mainly from healthy local Scottish produce. And why not retire to one of the beautifully furnished bedrooms for a relaxing night's rest.It comes as no surprise that the Auldgirth Inn is already wracking up awards after undergoing its first major modernisation since 1804.And that's down to new owner, award winning restaurateur and chef Robert Macaleese.
Rab, as he is known, has built up a considerable reputation for running restaurants where quality, taste, originality, variety and value for money are a trademark. Just ask the regular customers at Little Italy in nearby Dumfries. Now Rab has widened his sights and bought the Auldgirth Inn, a B listed building of great character and antiquity, that stands off the A76 trunk road a ten minute drive north from Dumfries.
Review
With pubs closing down at a rate of knots around the British Isles, It truly is survival of the fittest! You not only have to walk the walk, but talk the talk. Here at the Auldgirth Inn, they have been walking and talking the walk for years. Award winning chef & restauranteur, Robert Macaleese. Robert truly has taken the food here at the Auldgirth Inn to new heights and with the kitchen being on view to the guests, he wants you to witness just exactly how much work goes into every prepared dish and thats why he has designed his restaurant spaciously, this has proved to be a huge crowd pleaser. 111 Fine dining without the pretentiousness is the order of the day here at the Auldgirth Inn and once you experienced the food and ambience of it all, you’ll see just exactly how they won their well earned 2 AA Rosettes.
Usually restaurants with rooms are either great at doing food and have ok rooms, or have great rooms and their food is just ok, but here at the Auldgirth Inn, they do both just as well as the other! Being perfectly situated within some of Dumfriesshire’s prettiest countryside, you couldn’t be located any better really and one of our Top 100 Attractions, Drumlanrig Castle is only a short jaunt away by car, so for those of you that are fishing, shooting, or any of the other multitude of activities on offer locally, the Auldgirth Inn is your perfect base. With six sumptuous rooms to chose from, each one designed with its own individual character and with their award winning restaurant being located onsite, once you’ve parked your car for the night, there’s no need to leave! I can’t recommend the Auldgirth Inn enough, but don’t just take my word for it, book a stay and see for yourself!
